A buddy of mine has one on a skeeter and it runs very nice. No smoke, quite at idle, good mpg, loads of torqe.
Burning the candle at both ends.
How many hours do you know???
I like mine, Its running low H2O pressure right now, had the water pump replaced and will be doing the poppit valve this week... hopefully that'll fix her.
but she runs great. pushes my tzx 200 to 72.4mph (cold weather) tx load. fuel consumption is good in the midrange, tends to burn a lot of fuel at WOT but that is every outboard I think.
your water pressure is gonna be low if the lake water temp is 80s and above

I've owned a 225 HPDI and now 250 HPDI. I think I've found my brand. Not a days problem so far. The 3.3 200 HPDI should be a great engine. The lower unit provides great lift on heavy boats and has lots of positive trim. I think the paint job is the best in the biz. Like the overall look of the motor too. Great torque, hole shot, and top end.

I couldn't tell you for sure but I do know that he runs the piss outta it and it keeps on keepin' on.

I have a 2006 3.3 ltr yammie 200 hpdi. The motor is awesome. Great holeshot and loads of torque. Get around 72 mph on my stratos 295.
I'm running an '05 tzx200 w/ the 3.3L 200 HPDI.
Recently my eyes have been pretty much glued to the water pressure gauge. The first two years of running, I consistantly maintained the poppit valve and watched water pressure closely,
2-4 psi at idle, 18-20 psi at ~4000 RPM and 20-22 psi WOT. (5600-5800)
Still by the end of the second year I had melted my exhaust and the tuner had fallen inside the lower unit prop housing. A metal piece about 6 inches long!! And was visible when the prop was removed. Although my exhaust was super hot, I was lucky and the service shop had scoped and compression tested my cylinders and thankfully all six cylinders were 115 psi and with the scope, the engine looked new still. No scoring and the cylinders looked clean.
Yamaha took care of this and warranty covered it, but I was shocked at what I had found last fall. Previously I had heard replacing the water pump impellor every other year but I am going to get it replaced every spring.
But still at times the water pressure declines a little bit with no reasonable explanation as to why. My inital run of the day can have the water pressure as above, then the next run to the next spot my psi will drop by two psi across the board. and by the end of the day will be back to where I had begun. The water pressure seems to be inconsistant at times.
The engine is a strong running, smooth, and powerful as well as easy on the gas, Starts very easy and is very smooth. Despite my exhaust problems the power unit is worry free. My biggest gripe is not trusting the Water pump in keeping the engine cool. I hope this engines durability is up there with my old 1996 Pro-V 150. but that might be a lot to ask for.
Here ya go...
2006 200 HPDI
age of motor problem
1month bad TPS
2 months losing RPM's @ WOT (bad primer bulb and fuel pump)
4 months thrust washer broke and lower unit had to be replaced
6 months bad water pump (8psi at WOT)
8 months excessive wear on thrust washer (ANOTHER new lower unit)
Today (boat is 9mos old) lost RPM @ WOT, would only turn 3800 (waiting to see what the problem is this time...![]()

mines a late 06 motor (11/06 ) ,i had a ox66 225 , i like em both , i like yammies for there low end toruqe, other motors can run a little faster as comparsion , ive been in most all of em, and none can compare with yammies tourqe, im disappointed in my speed on my zx200, when its tourney loaded down , but there just like drag car motors , theres no two motors and hulls alike in same manufactor, im only gettin 69.4 by myself with factory prop (gps) and 66gps with tourney load , most of others are gettin 70-gps WITH tourney load, factory set up (prop)...i havent had any problems with mine as of now 32hrs on motor, other than a recall on oil pump
What Chris sd. Hot lake water will drop your psi quite a bit. Mine usually runs around 12 psi during the day, even w/ a new water pump. I also change mine yearly.
Have my first Yamaha- the 200 HPDI, 3.3 liter, and is one year old. Runs strong with the right prop. Had a new powerhead (oil pump failure), cold starting is still a problem. The most important thing is to have a good dealer who will service your rig. Unfortunately, mine is an unresponsive dealer which makes this a bad experience, this would be true no matter which motor you buy.![]()
