    E-Tec 75Hp & 90Hp Freshwater/Saltwater?

    Gents,

I'm new to the forum, a friend steered here because of the excellent advice he gets about his 150 - 2 Stroke Johnson.

    I have a Welded Aluminum 17' CC with a 50hp 4 Stroke Yamaha.

The Boat is tad under powered. It moves along at 16 Kts @ 5000 RPM fully rated at 6500 RPM. I bought the engine used and its been great.

In order to get 20Kts I have to push the RPM up to 6000RPM, gets a little loud.

Ideally I'd like to cruise at 20kts Plus.

The other option is to buy a bigger engine.

    2 Options - 75 E-Tec Feshwater (Used) or 90 E Tec Saltwater (New).

The boat stays in the Saltwater year round. Is the Freshwater version intolerate to Saltwater? I believe Yamaha uses "Saltwater Series" as marketing ploy, apparently there is not a lot of difference.

I believe the boat will take the weight and power of both, however my boat is not placarded with Max Hp Rating.

Any ideas on how fast I can push the boat comfortably?

    Thank you. AP.

both engines would be fine. don't let the label of freshwater on the 75 throw you off the ...the freshwater engines are made for saltwater also.about the same engine just a different color paint
