INTRO - Anyone else with offshore boats or all bass boat owners?

Just found this forum via the etecinfonet site. Looks like some great info here. Just curious if there are any other ETEC owners in here with boats other than bass boats?

I run a 27 Contender with twin 250 ETECs on Lake Erie and fish for walleye and steelhead. I also have the I-Command guages and an early set of the Rebel Props. My motors (2006 models) are for sale and will be replaced with another set as soon as they sell.

I have 20ft Hydra-Sport Vector CC w/ a 225 Etec and fish out of NE Florida for snapper, grouper, kingfish and cobia.
How do you like the rebel props? I am considering one for my boat.

    Scott,
The Rebel props made a huge positive impact for me. We had tried Rakers, Vipers, and the 4 bladed Cyclone. Pitch anywhere from 19 to 23. The 21 Pitch Rebels were the best by far.

Steve, we deal in all saltwater boats. I visit this site daily to see whats going on and waht people are seeing with there ETEC's. We have had no real problems to speak of. BRP makes the Rebel wheel. We have not tried them yet but once the weather breaks we have a few boats we are going to try them on. We currently use the cyclone on all our repowers. We cain wait to try the new rebel wheels.

    No E-TEC or Bass Boat here, but a classic 1990 Boston Whaler 22 with a classic 1992 Evinrude two-stroke 225 V6.

Re: INTRO - Anyone else with offshore b ... (johnrude)

Thanks for the replies. You will love the Rebel props. Prior to the Rebel the best setup on my boat was a 4 bladed Cyclone.

What's the scoop on a 250 HO? Will it be available in the saltwater model 25 inch shaft with counter rotation? Any idea on timing if such a beast is in the works??
    Thanks

I believe the 250 HO is a myth. I have not seen or heard anything about it.

Almost like Fishin' Impossible, I run a 21 1/2' offshore center console with a '05 225 E-TECH. I am currently running a Rebel prop. With the magnum gearcases (gearcases on the offshore V-6 engines since '03 I think) the Rebel prop seems to be the answer. I was running a Viper, but, way too much slip. This Rebel really hooks up and the slip is way, way down. The Rebel props are available through any BRP distributer. They are relatively new, as they have only been out since Nov. of '05. They are very similiar to the Merc Mirage Plus props with max diameter and blade area.

I dont run etec but I do run offshore. I have a 93 203 Dusky OF with a Newly installed 2001 225HP Ficht. I have been on many forums for saltwater and landed on this one. Although it is a "Bass Boat" site the folks here are more then willing to help with anything posted. It is a joy to have a "go to" spot for all of my screwups!!

    Enjoy

Welcome Guys, we don't care what boat you have as long as you have a Johnson or Evinrude hanging off the back.

Re: propeller blade area. Here is a picture I took of my MIRAGE Plus propeller blade. Overlaying the blade is a kraft paper cut out of the blade from an OMC SST propeller of similar pitch and diameter. You can see how the blade shape is different, particularly on the trailing edge.

    overdrive cb,
Any more specifics on the props you changed from and to? Where were your motors mounted? Mine are one hole down from the top and I have the Land N Sea wedges which make a HUGE difference. The Rebel prop seems like a winner so far. I do love the boat!

Funny we had to use wedges on a 25' Chris Craft with a bracket. It would not prop right without them. This is one boat with the customers permission this spring we are going to remove the wedges and try the Rebel wheel to see what happens.

i dont remember what was on the boat before i switched to torque shifts (factory yamaha stainless ) i know every body on here says they have problems if you suface them (torque shifts) but they probably dont surface on a big boat. i never had a problem on mine and it would snap your neck out of the hole and would run high high 60s full of gas and loaded. they were mounted on a stainless bracket 24" i think
