Don. qusestion about fuel filter sensor

Got a 2004 250 xs ran fine last week. This week would not jump on plane when it finally did after plowing water would only get to 5000 rpm and 50 mph after pulling off cowl noticed that the sensor wire on the fuel filter was not connected was wondering if that being an open circuit would cause it to act like that. Changed fuel lines and filter. and spark plugs at the beginning of year and also run your cocktail so none of that should be a problem. Had low pressure fuel pump and needle valve replaced in march by merc. dealer. Thank you.

    Welcome to BBC!

In and of itself, a disconnected wire from the Water in Fuel sensor would NOT cause your complaint.

From your description, it sounds like you're down one cylinder. Start with the BASICS:

    -Compression Test
-Spark Test (including CLEAN IZFR6J Spark Plugs)
    -Fuel/Air Pressure Tests

Not impossible.... but keep in mind that your engine utilizes a completely different ignition than the ones you're thinking of (very rare to see coil failures on this model).
