hey guys, anyone have any good tips for fishing the smartcraft cable through the rigging tube? It appears to be quite a tight fit. thanks.

Get with Don, he can give you the pinout and tell you how to take the connector apat and put it back together correctly.
I just ran an old radio antenna from the engine to the hull thru mine, and taped the u-no-what out of it (wires to the antenna), then eased it thru. It helps if you have 2 people, one to ease it thru while the other moves the rigging tube to make it easier. Once thru, put the connector back together and hook it up.

You'll need a very small wire fish its easier to go from the motor to the boat end with the fish, also unscrew the rigging tube from the boat so that end is free. I would tape a string to the fish then feed it through. Once it comes out take the string off the fish and pull out the fish leaving the string in the rigging tube. Tie the string to the smartcraft cable at the boat end and begin pulling it through. if you get hung up pull the cable back a couple inches and re-pull. If it gets really hung turn the motor to the side to make the rigging tube straighter.
What I've tried with great success was to tie 2 strings to the negative cable and pull it back through the rigging hose. Remove the one string and then pull the negative cable back through to the motor and reconnect. This leaves you with the string to tie your wires onto for your S/Craft harmess or what ever wire your trying to pull through. It's very hard to pull a harness through that has a connector on it's end due to it's size and the difficulty making any bends without hanging up, more so if your running the smaller hoses, the Opti hoses are fairly easy because of there bigger size..........Good luck.

thanks for the reply. I am trying not to remove the connector if possible. I have to replace the fuel lines aswell, so what is your opinion on removing the fuel line then fishing the smartcraft cable, then the fuel line? I have a proper small fish to fish through the rigging tube.. thanks.
Using the same idea of pulling 2 strings through attached to the fuel line ............... or using your fish tape in lieu of string.........
Attach your fish tape to the fuel line at the motor, then pull out the fuel line bring the fish tape out with it. Now take your S/Craft connector and Ty-Rap the fish tape to the wire bundle just below the connector.Once that's in place, put the fuel line next to the wires below the connector and tightly wrap everything together with electrical tape or duct tape, try to keep the diameter as small as possible. Try to shape your tape job into a small point at the front. This will help it go through easier without wanting to hang up. The important part is to make the nose of your tape job look like a bullet so it has less chance of catching onto something and it will pull easier.............Good luck.![]()

thanks Gary, i'll give it go.
If you have a tight radius bend in the rigging hose you may have to help it a little by trying to straighten the bend as much as possible as you pull through............hope you get it through.

Also I had to take both ends of the rigging tube loose and also used some liquid soap to make it slide easier.
Sometimes I need my ATV when in my boat and sometimes I need my boat while riding my ATV.
My fuel line was wire tied in several places that I couldn't reach so I could not pull it through, I just left it and ran the new one. A suggestion for you when you run the Merc cable....attach an extra lenth of string to leave in the hull on the chance you have to run another cable down the road. I did not do this when I ran my Merc Monitor cable, and I kicked myself a few months later when I had to go the same route with a temperature sensor cable. Would've been much easier had I left an extra string when I was there the first time. I did so when I ran the temp sensor, but I'm sure now that I remembered to do it I'll never have to run another line through thereGood Luck!!
Trust me, ( and especially Don ) just take the plug off, fish it through, and put it back on. It seems like a lot of work, but it only takes a minute, and you can then fish it right through with no problems or damage to the plug end or any other lines in there. Follow the directions in Don's link. It works great.

+100 - Follow the instructions and write down all wire colors and/or take pictures for putting it back together... Good advice here - but those rigging tubes can be bothersome to say the least.... It worked for me - Good Luck
If I had to do it again, I would remove the plug. Did mine with plug...and invented some new curse words in the two hours it took to get it done...![]()
