    Smartcraft Cable Install

I am looking to equip my boat with a smartcraft system monitor. I picked up the 20' cable from European Marine (Thanks again Don), My question is when i am rigging the cable is it possible to remove the connectors to make it easier to pull through the boat or is that a bad idea? Thanks.

That is the best way to get it though the hull and the rigging of the motor. Just make sure you get all the wires back in the same place you take them out of the plug.

If you need assistance with "de-pinning" the plug, feel free to give me a call. I'll be glad to walk you through it.

Please have a pen, piece of paper, and a small flat-blade screwdriver handy.

    Re: Smartcraft Cable Install (bigbasser54)

I was nervous about removing the connector so I snaked mine by running a rope through the sidewall of the boat first and then taping the rope to the cable and pulling it though. I had to tape it in such a way that there were no sharp edges around the connector to grab on nooks and crannies as I pulled it through.

It snaked through the sidewalls of the boat fairly easily this way. The most difficult part was snaking it through the housing between the boat and the motor.

    Good luck!

    Re: Smartcraft Cable Install (rpr)

Thanks rpr, I plan on giving it a go with the connector still on as you described thanks for the tip. If I do run into trouble then I will be giving Don a call to walk me through the de-pin.

    Re: Smartcraft Cable Install (bigbasser54)

I installed mine in December. Don assisted me in "de-pinning" the connector head. Worked like a charm. I would recommend taking pictures of the connector head prior to the "de-pinning" process in the event that you might run into problems....
