    sportmaster vs torquemaster

I read a post on here a few days ago seems to be gone now. It talked about a guy who had a 21dx with a 25xs with heads computer, tuner, etc who took off his TM and put on SM 1:62 case raised it up and went from 82mph to 93 mph.

I have a 21xd with a 250xb with 300pm heads, and ecu, hydrotech tuner, poppet diverter valve, and cowl mod. I have a TM gearcase with 1:75 gears turning an A45 tempest 27 to 6400 rpms @ 85.5 mph lower is 1/2 below pad.

Well I borrowed a SM case with 1;62 gears today, raised motor to 1" above pad with my tempest prop, turned 6200 rpms @ 85 mph so no gain.

I then tried a 32 pitch ron hill cleaver raised motor to 1.5" above went 80mph at 6200 rpms

    I then tried a mazco re 4 30 pitch at 1.5" above went 83 mph @ 6400 rpms.

I am baffled why did I not go faster with the SM case with 1:62 gears with motor raised up ????

    Any help here is appreciated.

Re: sportmaster vs torquemaster (bass bullet)

Thats kind of a bummer I have a 2003 21XD with a 2004 3.0 litre 225 EFI with a lightened flywheel is all. No other mods, with 1/2 tank of gas me and fishing load not water in live wells I'm getting 82.6 on the gps with a 28 pitch turbo TXP-OT4 at 5650 rpm and if you don't believe me asK MIke Lohn he helped set my boat up. THis thing humps for a 225 on a 21 footer.... I believe I have more to go I may hit 83 I let off cause of the end of the lake.....

You need a smaller prop with the 1.62's.

The cleaver won't lift your boat, they are made to run on light boats.

    Re: (jowens)

the fastest I could get in my 21xd w/ 250xs and a tm lower 1/2 below the pad is 85.6. with a 28 pro et. Might want to push that sporty in the water a lil to get some lift. Not such an issue with the 20's. but the 21ers need a little help. (seems like)

    Re: (crash1big)

If ya lighten the load by removing all your tackle and anything up front you may get it to run better with the sporty, they just don't like to carry the load. Having the extra power will help it some and a tight Bravo or Hydromotive may help it carry the load as well as lowering the sporty a little, but once ya get to low with it id defeats the reason ya tried it..

I believe a coned T master would work better for ya, but I also know from recent experience that ya just can't always change a gear case and run it like ya stole it!! You may need a few days of running to learn the differences with it especially seeing as to how you went from a 1.75 Tmaster to a 1.62 sport master..

    Re: sportmaster vs torquemaster (SUSHII)

That was my post that disappeared last week, I dont really give 2 shi???? that you guys believe me or not I have nothing to prove to any of you. I have gain alot of great info from several of you on this site in reguards to set up. I have spent alot of time and money playing with this set up and the # are what they are. I will say finding a prop for this combo has been a bitch I've got eight of them right now. The 30 pro et was the fastest prop I've run but it was with just me and 1/2 tank of fuel no water in the wells, cant tourny fish with it. My Bravo's , andTXP's, have been in the 84 to 87 mph range depending on condtions. Have a 28 performer 4 Billy has been working on for me but its not what I'm looking for yet but he will get it right I think. All I will say is every boat and motor combo is different and i'm only on here posting what I have found on my set up.

    Re: sportmaster vs torquemaster (mark21xdc)

It is really hard to get much more than you were getting with that torquemaster case.... I would look at the Hydromotive Quad 4X-OB in 26 or 27 with that XB seeing as yours can rev to 6400 ... The thing about the hydros is that they will work very well with both TM and Sporty cases with a bit of playing with propshaft heights.... It does sound like the props you are trying with the Sporty won,t lift the bow set as high as you are , so you should try the sporty set only one click higher than where you had your TM.... This however kind of defeats the purpose of trying the sporty ; like was alluded to earlier; and is why most recommend the TM.... (The Hydros come out of the hole very well without blowing out on breakover..., even with a Sporty) , can be run high , don,t weed up like a trophy ,lift the bow and carry a load ,and stay bit in rough water ... also .. they are not blade slingers......

    Re: sportmaster vs torquemaster (canadablazer)

Mark has busted his A$$ to get that boat where it is and he has spent alot of money doing it. I know what he has went through to get it there and I am very proud of him. He didnt just bolt on a Sporty, hyd. jackplate, and a prop and go out and bust that number. He spent several hours setting it up, (alot of the information he got from here) and has tried prop after prop after prop, all with different set ups.

I know of two other customers of ours that have the same basic combo as Marks except for the hyd plate and they are running consistent high 80's.
