Picked up some power pro 50lb test today to rig my frog rod with and have never used it before. Saw something where guys only fill half of the spool. Is this for cost savings or does it not sit on the spool as well as mono? Heard some braids wont spool tight enough.

I fill half the spool with cheap stren, and finish it with braid. this accomplishes a couple of things..
#1... stren is alot cheaper.
#2... if you have a really bad professional overrun, then you only lose a little.
It helps with slipping also. If you have a ported spool you can run your line through the spool then tie to prevent this as well. Mono first is the way to go though just be sure to put enough braid that you dont run out on a long cast.

If you do not back it with mono it will slip on the spool. The first time I ever used braid I had tied straight to the spool, I did not know it was slipping. I took my reel to have it worked on because I thought it was messed up. The guy that works on reels looked at me and said " is that braid tied to the spool?" I felt like a dumb arse.
