How many of you guys use a mono backing on braid for spinning reels? How much mono line do you put on before starting the braid?

I suppose it depends on how many yards of braid you want on the reel, the diameter of the braid, and how much line the reel holds. My STX is rated for 140yds of 12lb. I have it spooled with 40lb. Sufix...10lb. mono equivalent. Don't know, but guessing that means a minimum of 170 yds of braid. No way do I need that much for the type of fishing I do.
Being somewhat miserly, I spooled on a fair amount of mono first. No idea how much. Just guessed by looking at how full the reel was. I'm guessing 80-90 yards of braid would be fine for me. I could have over 100 yds. of braid on, IDK.
Some people put a strip of electrician's tape around the spool, and fill with braid. Seems like a waste to me given the cost of quality braid.
EDIT: Oops, just noticed you said spinning reel, but the same rules would apply. I'm going to be spooling with braid on my Worm & Jig spinning rod. It is a smaller reel, so I will be putting a minimum amount of mono on it...2-5 wraps.
I use braid with a mono backing.I aslo played around with how much backing to use.I have enough room to unwind a 125yd spool of braid and then figure how much backing I needed so I could fill 2 spinning reels with 60 yds of braid.Thats more than enough for a spinning outfit.
I use electrical tape and after the braid starts getting old I just pull it off and reverse the braid
