250 Pro xs problem may be solved

The motor spits and sputters when it first starts. I have been told from the experts here that it is because of a vapor lock caused by the ethanol in the gas. The only way to get it to run smoothly at the beginning is to pump the bulb every time I start it. I found out yesterday that one of the gas stations here in town is going to sell ethanol free gas. It was the best news I have heard in a long time. He will have it in about 3 days, I can't wait.

In a few days I will let you know. I was told that this gasoline has no ethanol in it whatsoever. I will see how it does.

I have never had to pump the prime bulb on my 09, is this also a climate thing? I know the fuel I'm getting has ethanol. I have no idea what percentage, but was just curious as to what other factors may be making priming the motor necessary.

The truth is that I am wondering the same thing. The only thing I know to do is to burn the 40 gallons in my tank and refill it with 100% gasoline and see what happens. If it still misses at the outset, I will know that something else is wrong. I will let you know. My motor is a 2008 model.

I have an 08 250 Proxs and only use 100% gas....I never prime the bulb....Stations that advertise 10% ethanol may contain more, so the primer bulb thing becomes more relevant.... 2-3% ethanol probably has no effect on the bulb.

I can explain it to you but I can\'t understand it for you

The problem seems to be stemming from the "ethanol-laden" fuels and the associated vapor-lock. The only way around this issue is if the newer fuel is not "alcohol" enhanced......IMHO.......let's keep our fingers crossed...:)

And if want to "keep them honest".... or need to KNOW FOR SURE what the ethanol content is, see this post for an "inexpensive, do-it-yourself test tool":

</TD></TR></TABLE>That discussion is here in SW Missouri as well and our Gov passed a bill that if the mfg and buying process was cheaper to HAVE ethanol then it would be sold to stations state wide. However if naturally "brewed" fuel was cheaper it was to be sold statewide. A lot of folks think or hear that their station is at 100 straight fuel when in fact if you check it you will see its not! Most of the ones I have checked that were "supposedly" ethanol free were in fact 4-5%! May or may not make a difference untill you get that first tank with 10% in it and mix with your ethanol free that was 4-5%

Re: 250 Pro xs problem may be solved (ssimpala71)

We tested a customer's fuel for him last week- his boat ran perfectly the first time out for the season. Next trip- he filled up at "X-Station" (who advertises no ethanol in their fuel on a big sign out front). Later that afternoon, he started experiencing the "telltale signs" of vapor lock (in the heat of the day).

He tried it again late in the evening.... all was well.

Guess what the percentage of ethanol was in that "our fuel contains no ethanol" fuel? TWENTY-TWO PERCENT!
