I have an old allis chalmers D17 tractor that I mow the pasture with and the old girl was in need of a carb rebuild. Anyways, I get a kit saturday and rebuild the carb on sunday. Get it back on and adjust it per the instructions. Crank and crank until the battery goes dead. So I think Hmmm WTH....... Charge the battery over night and tonight it starts right up. Only will idle, dies and bellows black smoke when I give it gas. WTH, right? So I let it idle and adjust the idler screw and it seems to idle a little smoother now. Rev it up same thing, wants to die and bellow black smoke. So ok its running rich obviously. For some unknown reason I push the choke to the "choke" position and wahlaaa, runs perfect!!! Doesn't die when I rev it up or bellow any black smoke.
Hooked the damn choke up backwards when I put it back together apparantly.![]()
