I took the day to replace the old gauges in my 86 Ranger bass boat. It has an 86 Johnson 110hp on the back.

I put tereflex marine gauges in and did not watch the wiring as close as I should have.

Here is my problem. I have the fuel gauge working fine and the speedo.

The tilt gauge has a white wire with a brown strip and a black wire with a brown stripe. BTW, Where is the tilt sending unit? The directions call for me to hook up a single wire and the ignition switch and ground. I tried hooking a wire to each side and one side with the ignition switch to see how the trim worked. This is where the problem started I now have no tilt control power or ignition power to the engine.

I do still have guage lights and no blown fuses in the box. Can someone help me figure out what I shorted out? And once that is done how to hook up a teleflex gauge to a johnson without shorting anything out?

Also I am about to hook up the tach. The old factory tach had a purple wire, two black and a grey wire. They fed into a blind hole in the back with grommet. Now I have to decide which is the sending wire from the engine. I thought it would be the grey but now I have my doubts.

Can anyone walk me through the hook up with my engine and gauges?

Thanks and Semper Fi,

Rod
