I temporarily cured my cabin fever with a trip to KY Lake. This was my first time fishing this lake. My buddy I went with had fished it before but never in the winter. Amazing trip with bleeding thumb results. Fished 8 hours Saturday. Launched at Kenlake and fished the west side. Main lake points and secondary points. Even caught fish 4 or 5 points back in the bays. Fish came from as shallow as 5 feet and got some at 25 feet. Sunday morning fished for several hours but went out the ramp at the 68 Bridge on the LBL side. First fish of the morning was a 5.00 smallie. (put that one on the scales) In the short trip we boated 73 bass over 15Â. Average was 2 to 3 pounds with some 4Âs and that 5 pound smallies being the largest. We fished a jig and crankbait but nothing. Everything came on that crazy Alabama Rig. My buddy bought his off Ebay and was pretty tore up and was down 3 wires we when left. I got mine from Eric at heavycover.com (Board Sponsor) and still look new. I hung mine up numerous times and even after yanking and poking that thing from snags it held up. I think the quality of the wire has a lot to do with it. Thanks to the BBC members that helped with some tips and also Greg at FishermanÂs Headquarters. We stocked up on some last minute supplies and he also gave us some tips as well. I used the Strike King Shadalicious Swimbait and only used one pack of 6. They lasted really well when super glued to the Jig head. Heck of a trip for January 7th and 45 degree water.
All fish were released!
