What's the best lake to fish in January?

Thinking of fishing the new year in!!! Thought about Guntersville. The wife wants a little get-away just me and her. So what a better way to start the new year?!!! Also does anybody have any sugestions on where to stay and fish? It will be my first time there, and want the wife to catch a few nice ones! It will help me a little when i berak the news that i'm going to fish in 2 clubs this year! Thanks!!!

January is a great time to catch a big one at Guntersville. I have caught two over 6lbs in the last week up there. The State Park is a great place to stay. You can rent a cabin, Chalet, or get a room in the lodge, plus you will see tons of deer. I photographed about a dozen bucks this past weekend. If you didnt want to stay at the state park, the city of Guntersville has plenty of hotels. Covenet Cove, Holiday Inn, and the Hampton Inn are all right there on the water.

And eufaula ain't but like 2 hours from there.

I agree. Our club usually fishes there in Jan. and we usually do very well. Accommodations might be a problem.

Stay off the river for the next month -- we have had so much rain that the river is Dangerous -- Martin is really good this time of year -- jordan is tough right now cause of all the rain -- there has been constant water flow thru there --

    Just my 2 cents

I would say Selma or Jordan....Last January on Jorda I brought in a 16 lb sack of spots only to finish 2nd in our tournament and finish 2nd in the big fish pot.
