How good is it, say mid-late April? Can it be compared to St. Clair in the first 2 weeks of May? I've never been to DH but I can say for certain that St. Clair in the spring is down right insane.

Great time to be down there... We rented a houseboat for a few straight years and always left the weekend following the 15th in April.
You can catch a bunch of fish but still no comparison to St Clair and the numbers caught up there.

Dale is not historically a "numbers" lake in comparison to something like St. Clair or KY lake etc...However, this past April was incredible to say the least. There were lots of people catching 30+ fish a day between crank baits and swimbaits.
There's no place I'd rather be than Dale Hollow in April!!!
What's an average size catch down there?
17-20.5in
lots of healthy 19in fish
I just got the contracts on renting two houses on harsens island may 18th - 27th it is going to be a blast we are taking 12 people 6 boats and lots of food
JMO...but March is much better than April.
