    lower unit has water it it

    iv got a 1995 175 fastrike thats got water in the lu. my mod # is j1750leom and the ser.# is g03833516. it had water in it last year and i changed the fluid and instaled a new prop seal.. well it has water again.. do yhey make a lu seal kit?? also its time for a water pump.. is this something i can do at home.. i work on cars and stuff and have plenty of tools and a place to do this.. also i need the little peice that the speedo hooks up to on the front of the lu.. part # would help also .. thanks guys

    most common leak point is the driveshaft seals under the water pump. Your Evinrude dealer has a complete seal kit that gives you everything needed with extra stuff left over that is used on other model gearcases.

    Ge the complete factory water pump kit, too

    I'd take a day and drive over to Eddie Pope's place in Charleston, TN, and let him work his magic. It wouldn't be that far of a drive, and Eddie is the man with J/E cases.

    You can do it, but in my situation, 1) I didn't have the proper tools necessary to do the job, and 2) Eddie pressure checked the l/u first, along with checking and straightening the prop shaft.

    For the money, it was much easier to have him do it right. You might be surprised at how affordable it is to have him do it.

    If you plan on doing it, get a J/E shop manual and tear it down according to the book. Not an aftermarket book, but the J/E manual for your specific motor.
