    Spring Break Fishing Trip

We have fished the surf of St. George Island this week for Spring Break. We caught several whiting, a few pompano, butt load of saltwater catfish, about four 3 foot sharks, a 20 lb stingray, and one big bull redfish. Mason landed this one this morning, measuring 39 inches.

You lucky dog! I was there last year near the end of June - could only catch whiting, sand trout, and a couple of 14" sharks.

You are lucky!!! Must be a better time of year to fish there...

From what I understand, this can be the best time of the year depending on the water temp. The last time that we came down, we missed it by one week. The Spanish Mackerel were crushing rat-l-traps and swimbaits. My pastor had a cooler full.

I did catch a few mackerel - had to get them early in the morning when the tide was in.

They went nuts for the Got-Cha bait!

Wish that I had known that a few days ago. I'll have to try that next time!

I love me some Gulf fishin'.....GULP! shrimp on a jig head, Gotcha plugs in chart./chrome or red/chrome......and Matt Alliston turned me on to freelining greenbacks in the surf. My wife loves to throw the castnet for greenbacks (she's great at it) and I love using them

Never heard of "greenbacks in the surf." I'll have to look into that. We pretty much just chunk some shrimp out there and hand on. Once we catch something worth using as bait, we cut it up and sling it out as far as we can. The day that the surf was really whipped up along with a high tide, was the day that we had the Redfish and the sharks.
