Boat buckle transom tie down mounting issue

I've got a boatmate trailer with u-bolts welded to the rear crossmember for the standard tie down mounting point. Obviously this will not enable me to simply bolt the new boat buckle retractable straps on like most rigs. Is there some type of bracket that clamps or bolts on withought having to weld tabs of some sort to the trailer? Anyone run into this before?

can you not cut those off and drill through the crossmember?

Well sure I can drill holes, but was hoping to find a clamp on bracket. Guess I'll just drill through the tube and use an isert sleeve to run the bolt through.

I may have to do just that. Boatbuckle makes brackets to bolt on, but I thought they sucked. I made my own heavy L shaped brackets, and bolted them to the "ears" that are welded to the trailer, but now those have bent. I really didn't want to drill completely through, but it looks like that my only option now aside from grinding the paint off and having a new, heavier piece welded on

a buddy of mine used the brackets on his Stratos trailer but i thought they suck. i still use my Skeeter tiedowns. i just dont think dunking those buckles in the water everytime you launch and pull out is good for them. dont need something else to lube.

I recently bought some and went to install and I can't get the bolts and nuts to tighten. I get them started about a quarter of the way and then its done!
