To be safe, I would suggest a complete teardown and inspection of the case. This way, both buyer and seller can evaluate the situation and perhaps compromise on price in a fair and equitable manner.![]()
What is the worst that could be wrong with the motor?
That's a wide open question!! Was there oil in the unit or all water? How much of each came out? Do you happen to see fishing line wrapped up around the propshaft? What was on the magnets when you removed them?
lots of oil, lil bit of water and no fishing line.
Well, if the magnets were clean, then you may just have a leaking seal that a pressure and vacuum test will reveal. If you have gone out in this boat and everything seemed smooth and quiet, I would say it's O.K. But again, the most important sign at this point, is what the magnets looked like. Large chunks of buildup is a bad sign. Metallic paint look is normal.
Biggest thing to worry about is the compression numbers on the motor, gearcases are cheap compared to a power head.![]()
