    Maybe a stupid question, but.......

I have a 99 Nitro boat and trailer package. When I bought the boat, I used to have to get out and turn the knob on the front of the trailer to back up......that knob was wore out and didnt last long and went missing. So I said the heck with it. I extended the tongue and drilled a small hole, and now when I want to back up, I have to push the boat back and put the pin in.
My buddy just bought a 2000 Nitro boat and trailer. He has a 5 wire harness and it just put the truck in reverse and it locks out the brakes so you can back right up. My tralier only has a 4 wire harness. I beleive they are UFP actuators.
My question is: What would I need to do so that I dont have to get out of my truck everytime I want to back up???????
Can the 5 wire setup be added?

First check and see if your trailer has the solenoid plumbed into the back of the master cylinder and your trailer has the fifth wire. If it does, then all you have to do is wire the fifth wire on the trailer to the back up lights on your tow vehicle. If not then the fifth wire activates a solenoid which bypasses the brake fluid back into the brake master cylinder You would have to change your master cylinder to the one that has the little nipple for the solenoid hose to fit into and then add the solenoid and hook your brake lines on the solenoid. Some work and money involved but it can be done. Then wire you fifth wire to the backup lights on your tow vehicle and your good to go.

Well, I looked, and cant see much under ther, but the little I can see, is that there appears to be a solenoid on the back of the master cylinder......could only get 1 finger up in there but it feels like there is one wire sticking out of the side of it at the top, and that wire is cut so its only about 3 inches long. I can also feel the brake line coming out of the solenoid. So.....when it isnt dark out, I'm going to have to get in there and splice into that wire and hook it to the reverse lights!
    Thank you soooo much!!!

Sure sounds like all you will have to do is splice that wire, most are blue wires, into your tow vehicles reverse light wire and it should work. Let us know how it goes.

Any chance the solenoid could bad and thats why the previous owner cut the wire?
I'll try and get to it this weekend. Man, it sure would be nice to back the boat up without having to get out of the truck everytime and try to push the boat back to extend the tongue!
You've been a huge help Rangerguy! Thank you

Your welcome. To check the solenoid, have someone put your vehicle in reverse after you get the wire hooked up and you should feel, hear a click sound when they put your tow vehicle in reverse. If you're like me and can't hear, put your hand on the solenoid and you will feel the click when it happens. If you don't then you will need to change out the solenoid. IM me, I have a couple of new ones laying in my garage.

Ok, so I just rebuilt the tongue of my trailer twice....GGGRRRRR What a pain in the ass!!!!!
I spliced onto the solenoid wire which was too short to spilce onto without taking it all apart. The trailer only has a 4 pin harness but I think thats due to the previous owner. I think something happened to the solenoid and he just cut the wire then got a new 4 pin connector.
Got it all back together and touched the solenoid wire to the reverse light pin in the trrucks plug. Nothing (insert curse words here). Didnt hear a click, didnt feel a click.....so I'm assuming the solenoid is shot. Now I get to take that thing all apart AGAIN! (insert more curse words here)
Ron, I know you said you had a couple laying around.......just let me know how much and I'll be glad to paypal it to you. Thanks again.

Just getting feeling back in my fingers.....it's 40 out with a windchill of 33!!!!!!
