    1997 Evinrude Intruder Quick Question

I have a 1997 Evinrude Intruder 175 I replaced the pack on a few months back....last week it started having power problems again and I did a spark test and it seems to be a failed pack AGAIN! I'm going to replace the optical sensor with it this time and probably coils to just because. My question is...on top of this motor there is the "timing wheel" with all the degrees and so on on it. When I take the center bolt off to remove that timing wheel to get to the screws to remove the sensor do I have to have the timing adjusted when I put the new sensor on and then asseble that timing cap and tighten the bolt back down or should it be fine?

I'd have it checked but it shouldn't move much. So you going with BRP parts?

Maybe on the boat but not from the factory.

Didn't you say on another post that you had no spark on all cylinders? You might want to check the stator output, before you throw parts at it. I no longer have to deal with the CDI folks so I will tell you straight out, BRP parts for me only. Good luck.

If it hasnt changed, ALL the replacement parts for BRP electronics are made by CDI......

If I had to guess, since I have been to there place down the road here, I would say that they are same parts, same specs with different stickers.... But who knows.... I have had past issues with the CDI stuff as well, but you have to use what you can get now days...

Re: 1997 Evinrude Intruder Quick Question (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

I am using CDI parts....not worried about BRP. Anyways....no I didnt say it wasnt sparking on all cylinders...it is only missing a spark on one cylinder and that is the starboard middle one. I moved the spark plug wire and power pack wire from the middle coil to the top coil to see if the problem followed and it did so that tells me it is the pack.

Did you trace your wire back (the orange w/stripe wire) to make sure it wasnt pinched off? Actually, the middle wire shouldnt have a stripe on it...:)

Be carefull taking off the timing wheel, they sometimes become stuck and won't come off. They aren't that expensive if you break it.
