    Cabelas Super Mag 1600 waders

I just got my first set of 5mm neoprene waders from Cabelas today. I wore them around the house for like 5 min to see how they fit. Lord have mercy, I thought I was going to burst into flames they were keeping me so warm. Overall, good finish on them. The straps don't seem to have as much slack as I'd like. I got the "Stout" size as I have oompa-loompa legs. I can't complain though. I also ordered some of the late season waterfowl gear as well (wading jacket and bibs) and they are super nice as well. I'll give a report on the waders when I get them wet in a few days.

I'd love to see how they are working after a couple of trips. I loved my last cabelas waders. They lasted 3years, and that is a longgggggg time for a pair of waders for me. Now I'm in a pair of hodges for the rest of the season.

You will love the 1600 Super Mags. Mine lasted about 3 yrs until they started springing leaks. I got a good deal on a pair of Columbia's this time tho. Wish I could have found some super mag Stouts on sale again tho.

I've got the same waders. I have only hunted in them once so far but I really like them. The buckle being at the bottom of the strap is a great idea, that way it is not in the way of shoulder the gun. The boots seem like they should keep my feet warm and toasty regardless of the temp. I hope I feel the same way about them at the end of season, we will see.

Best waders out there. If they leak, take em back. Pretty simple. We have been using them for 10 years...

The only complaint I have with my supermags is the straps fall down my shoulders and it gets really annoying. I'd like to see them put some kind of strap between the 2 to keep them from sliding down. But overall they are awesome. Best pair of waders I've ever owned.

They seem to get great reviews. I like my LaCrosse 1600 grams because they are fleece lined.

Same here. That fleece lining is awesome.

My hunting partner has a pair of them and he hasn't had any complaints, however I bought the Hodgman 1600 waders (supposedly same thing) and mine sprung leaks like crazy in the crotch and legs. Bought a pair of LaCrosse Brush-Tuff Extreme ATS 1600G Max-4 HD Waders and couldn't be happier. I've always had better luck with LaCrosse waders.

I don't think they will take back a pair of 3 or 4 yr old waders.

Re: Cabelas Super Mag 1600 waders (Wags186)

So far, so good. Agree on the shoulder strap observation from the prior post. The boots are heavy because of the thick rubber and 1600 gram insulation. They are oversized on the outside as a result and you have to get used to moving around in them. I would not want to walk a mile in them. I haven't hunted in freezing weather (because we've not had the bitter cold yet in TN), but they've been great on the hunts I've been on so far. I've been in some really nasty mud with them. The tread on the boots is good and allows the debris to easily wash out. The extra padding on the rump and knees are handy. I'd order them again.

My hunting buddy has a pair of LaCrosse that he's had for years and they appear to be good waders as well.

And thats why we pay rediculous prices on equipment. I figure after 4 yrs or so they are worn out. Of course I was being ethical I guess.

Re: Cabelas Super Mag 1600 waders (F150owner)

I have had mine for at least 4years. I walk into the woods and flooded timbers every trip carrying decoys. I am extremely rough with them including briars and breaking ice. Never had a leak.

I can say this, when having to walk any distance, never needed to wear thermals or liners. jeans or light camo pants ie cheap wal mart. 1 pair of smart wool wader socks. either a long sleeve t shirt or 1 long sleeve fleece and outer shell of a 4 in 1 parka. I have stood in 1" thick ice covered ponds for 3 hrs and never got cold from the waist down.

Now if not walking may need a little more insulation but usually not much.
It\'s a dog eat dog world out there and I\'m wearing milk bone underwear! \"Norm Peterson\" Cheers.

    Correct.

With my LaCrosse, around the 3rd season the crotch will start to leak (happens from the continual stretching/stress on the stitching from walking and rubbing against each other). I can repair the leak from the inside with some stuff called "Welder" from Lowes or Home Depot. Then I'll get another season or two before the rubber in the boots starts to rot. Where the boot makes a bend/crease when you take a step is where it starts first. You can patch it, then you'll add another patch, then another, and before you know it, you have polka dotted wader boots

4 seasons if the break-even point for me by my rule of thumb - anything after that becomes a bonus - 6 seasons is what I'm averaging on the LaCrosse waders. On my third pair of LaCrosse right now that I just purchased this past fall.

When it comes to waders, my rule of thumb is figure on spending $50 a season on waders. If you buy an el cheapo pair of $100 waders, plan on getting 2 seasons out of them. A $200 pair should give you 4 seasons, and some additional features/warmth. This may not apply to everyone, as I duck hunt about 30 days a season, and always wear my waders when I go...about half of those days I'm walking about 0.8 miles in and 0.8 miles out, so there's a lot of wear from simply walking/hiking in and out. For the 4-wheeler riders and boat blind crew, you probably get a few more seasons on your waders than I do.

Re: Cabelas Super Mag 1600 waders (F150owner)

For the price and warranty of the Cabela's Super Mag 1600 waders, it's hard to beat.

If Cabela's ever puts a fleece lining in them, I might give them a shot. My buddies that have the Cabela's waders always wear some sort of fleece liner or fleece pants...which I think looks gay when we're out in public eating lunch or something...I prefer to just wear jeans with my fleece lined LaCrosse, because that's all I need and it's convenient. No way am I going to wear those gay looking pants that my buddies wear.
