I know I set myself up with saying "stiff" on this board.

So I bought my first boat a while back - haven't got it on the water yet as I had to rebuild the powerhead and do some other maintenance. On thing I noticed is the steering seems a bit hard to move to me - I'm not sure if it is supposed to be this way or not. I have Teleflex (sp?) rack and pinion steering behind the wheel and the steering cable goes thru the motor mount. I disconnected the motor from the steering bar and it seems to move alright - heavy to start but keeps moving. I tried moving the bar when it is not thru the motor mount and it seems to move ok, a little resistance, but not too bad. Easy enough to move with one hand. Put it all together with some lube and it seems to be too hard to move.

So what should the steering be like? Should I be able to move the wheel with one finger, two fingers, three fingers, a hand, or have to muscle it around?

It is an aluminum boat with a 40 hp force on the back.

Thanks for any help,
Will
