    Trim Motor??

I got a 1991 bayliner cobra with a 120hp force. the question is my trim motor is not working. the relays click and i even bought new ones to try them. when the trim switch is pushed i get 12 volts coming in but nothing going out of the relay. i took the relay off and added a jumper wire. the power went in and came out but it still didn't move. im new to this whole owning a boat thing. Thanks for the input

    Re: Trim Motor?? (Hockmed)

You should have 2 relays, correct? Not sure how old your system is, if it has only two wires into the motor follow the test below. If it has 3 wires one is your ground.

The one with the green wire is your down relay, the one with your blue is the up relay.

When you test to see if power is coming out you must have your ground to the opposite relay.

I.E., if you are raising your engine you should have the positive lead on your meter to the blue wire and the negative lead on the green wire on the trim motor side of the wiring. If you are checking for current using wires from one relay you won't show any power because there is no ground. If you are getting power your starter motor is bad.

If you have a multimeter, let me know and I will tell you how to check your relays.

Generally if they click they are working but not always.

    Good Luck
