    trim motor

My trim motor that has been on my boat for two years went out the other day. Installed new motor and started trimming up and down and it did not sound quite right. trimmed up and checked fluid and it looked good, trimmed down opened manual release valve ran trim up and down a few times, tightened valve and started trimming up and down, going down sounded good but up did not sound right, trimmed up and down a couple of times then motor stopped half way up, after a minute it started working again, this went on for a few times then stopped altogether. I wired from battery to motor to make sure it was still working, and it is, but up still sounds like crap and i wonder if the relay has a problem.
    thaks for any help.

Try swapping the relays and see if the problem follows. If it does change the relay, if not look for a bad connection.

When I bypass the relay the motor works, but going up is realy slow and it sounds terrible I hope the new 200 dollar motor is not ruined. I think the hydralic end is messed up and I killed the relay. any thoughts?

When you installed the new $200.00 trim motor did you install a new O ring to properly seal it?

Yes I did install O ring. acording to my clymer book I think the pump and manifold needs to be replaced, also the fluid is a dark brown. How in the heck do you drain the fluid? I cant find a drain plug.

Pull the assembly, open the reservoir and drain there. May want to try and find a used assembly on the motor parts board. Cheaper than replacing with new.
