    Lower unit question

Whats the recommended interval under normal use?

I understand the winterizing technique, just not the normal...

I dont have a manual for the Motor, just a parts manual. Any place on line to reference an owners manual for a Mercury V6 150 Nitro Series

    Re: Lower unit question (ramminbusa)

change grease every season or if a lot of fishing in spring and in fall. if storing boat in winter drain and replace with new just in case there is any water in unit this way it will not rust anything. Water pump every 50- 100 hours or every season.

you may be able to get one from Merc. a merc tracker is no different than a normal merc just the cowl is different with different name and colors. if yours says efi on it it is the same engine as any 150 merc efi for that year.

Re: Lower unit question (NiTrO 190 TF)

yes if you look in the owners manuals and such they state every 50- 100 hrs or every season. it totally depends on if you use the boat at wot a lot or not and if you use the boat a lot or not. the cost to do a merc is miminual as the kit to rebuild is only about 40 dollars and you and a bud can do it in a couple of hours at most.

Johnsons are a little more tricky as you have to remove the shift lever but still not too bad. and yes at least every season. just think 100 hours is almost 4 1/2 total days at wot ( 24 hrs a day) you to be honest maybe run in a day if you are like most of us 2-3 total hours a day at the most. so it is a good while, most days i fish I may run my big engine 1 hour at the most and that is just blowing her out most times I barely use a couple gallons of gas.

no need to replace the VRO!!!! only when and if it starts to alarm do you need to replace it. Cost for a vro ........290-350 dollars, cost for water pump 60 maybe.
even if your vro starts to alarm you can do a few things to check it if need be and also you can add oil to the gas and head your merry way. but i would not relpace the vro( oiler/gas mixer) every year. if you do send your old one to me I can always use the spare
