A guy I work with is looking at a boat that has the above motor on it and I told him I would check with u guys and see what ya'll thought of this motor. I know I have read on here that some say the ficht motors are bad but is that just certain years or all of them.
The 02 and newer motors don't suffer the same maliase as the older Fichts.If the engine checks out and the computer printouts are acceptable, I wouldn't be afraid of it.
Make sure to check if the fuel rail (I believe it is the return rail)schrader valve has been replaced with a fuel rail WITHOUT the valve. Have the same motor, just a year newer- has been great with me with the exception of the schrader valve popping out on me. It is a $400 fix unless you are handy.
Thank ya'll I will pass it on, the motor is on a 1992 Ranger 361 that has been very well taken care of. The guy is asking 5500.00.
Honestly it is a roll the dice thing. If the Ranger is good, chances are an older guy repowered and never beat the motor. Have it checked, you may miss a gem. Only bad thing is you have a 361 Ranger if you want to sell or trade.
