I have a 1984 J90MLCDR Motor that when I drained the lower unit oil for the winter it looked like chocolate milk. I know that I have water in the oil and I need to pressure and vacuum test the unit to determine if it is the seals or a bad seating fill or vent screw washer. I purchased the motor used so I don’t know when the water pump was last changed so I thought that I would go ahead and drop the lower unit replace the pump and if any of the seals are leaking replace them at the same time. I have an OMC Service Manual and all the seals look pretty easy to get to and replace except for the two that are located in the Prop Shaft Bearing Housing. It looks like I will have to pull the Prop Shaft Bearing Housing to replace these two seals? Is this true? If so is this something that a do it your selfer should attempt or is this better left to someone with the correct tools and knowledge.
