Adding PAdded Carpet to Ranger Boat

I recarpeted my boat a few years ago and looked great. This coming winter I am going to do it again but this time I want to add a padded carpet to the front deck like you find on the new boats. I have several questions but the main one is how do you accomodate for the extra carpet depth on the side edge molding. The kind of moulding I used was just stuck in place.

Now for other questions, where do you get the padding? Do you glue it down first then do the carpet? The way I think it would work is to cut your padding to match the flat surfaces then just carpet the boat. I plan on only re-doing the front deck as that get 99% of the wear and the back deck and floor look basically new.

I guess you just glue it down and then glue the carpet to it.

I am going to stitch the edges on my carpet, its came from the factory that way.

I looked at a couple of new boats at the boat show that had padding, looked like they took it up to about 1/8th inch from the trim (about the thickness of the carpet so they could tuck into the trim. One of looked at had the trim that screwed down on top of the carpet, it was about the same.

yeap closed cell foam is where I got mine. I done the whole boat. I glued it down & then carpet. works great.

does that foam absorb water? It says closed cell so I guess its not supposed to. anybody tried it out for a year or two?

The edges of my carpet where it meets the boat is a rubber moulding. Do I gut the pad short of this moulding and go with the priginal style or is there one for the extra width of the padding?

Been thinking of doing this same thing to my boat. What thickness would be best for the foam?

yea id like to know what would be a good thickness im thing 1/4" to 3/8"
