I have a cover that has left white spots on the hull in two spots. I can not get them off my brand new boat. Cover company doesn't believe me. Any ideas of something I could use? Mild rubbing compound does not seem to work. Thanks Eric

My cover actually scratched the gel and I used 1500 wet sand and then compound and looks as good as new. I have since had a local shop stitch a piece of felt like material around the edges and have not had a problem since.![]()
Can you explain wet sanding to me? Will it remove gel coat? Thanks

This post explains it in detail.
You are taking 1500 grit sandpaper, which is very fine and dunking the paper in water to keep it wet and lubricated and rubbing out the marks on the gelcoat.
It is not going to remove anything but a microscopic layer of the contaminant/scuff on the gelcoat.
It will leave a dull finish, which the rubbing compound will bring back to a shine, then wax.
