    Fiberglass Repair

I was wanting to get some opinions regarding fiberglass repairs. I hit a stump a few months ago on Fork and had a split a few inches wide and about four feet long. I filed an isurance claim and had the repair done. Yesterday I hit my bilge and had taken on some water. This morning I looked under my boat and noticed a crack in the gel coat all the way down where the repair was done. I took it to the repair shop and was told that rough water was to blame. I'm not always gonna be out when its as smooth as glass and sometimes have tournaments when its rough. Has anyone had a repair done that let go in rough water and can it be fixed where this wont happen again? Will this be something Im gonna have to deal with everytime in rough water? Any advice would be great. Thanks,

You might want to talk to Bob at World Wide Marine. You might have a fuss with the insurance company.

If the repair was done rite there should be no problem.

    Re: Fiberglass Repair (nicefish)

If I had to guess...there was a stringer damaged (this gives the boat support) and the glass shop didn't repair the stringer and just re-glassed the bad glass. Thus when it flexed as in your rough water "since no support", it cracked.

Same problem on the (95 Champion) resto I am doing now. I took it to my glass shop and had them replace the stringer and re-glass the area and after it had been fixed twice at another glass shop.
