1988 Champion 201 DC Restoration Help Please

    Hello all!

I've been attempting for the last two weeks to remove the top cap on my 1988 Champion. I have removed all rivets and now I am able to lift the bow and the stern after cutting the transom cap part of the splashwell. It seems that i'm getting stuck around the seating area. Am I missing something? Anyone have experience with this type of boat? I have seen top caps removed online on many different brands, but not Champions. Thanks a bunch.

I will post pictures later today.

    Thanks,

    c10

Post this on the Champ forum, and title it "Question for Pat". He see it in time, and no one on that forum knows more about Champs from that era than he does.

Pat would be the best to ask, but probably the console area is attatched to the floor which is attached to the hull. The floor probably does not come up with the top cap. Check the edges of the consoles along the floor line and check to see if the are attached with tacks, screws, staple or what ever, possible covered with a layer of resin and or glass/resin.

ChampioN used a composite adhesive along with the rivets to bond the top cap and hull together. You may be able to get them separated with an air chisel.
