    E-Tec Accelaration problem

Just purchased a new 2010 Evinrude 175 E-Tec. It has 12 hours on it and has been to the shop twice due to no accelaration. Mechanic states that the computer says all is ok and that I need smaller pitch prop from a 24 Raker to a 23 Tempest. I find this very hard to believe and am at wits end already with this whole deal. Any thoughts?

What boat and weights are you dealing with? Are you referring to engine acceleration on plane or hole shot ???

Knowing what rig it is on would help matters. If it is on a 20' Ranger then the 175 isn't going to blast it out of the hole. Got to remember that 175 is a 60 * E-tec and not a 90 * big block.

I believe they recommend a RakerII in 24 pitch for the 250HO, so having said that the 23 doesn't sound to far off. But I'd bet a 22P would make it scoot. Assuming you are running the new L2 gear case with 1.71 gear

The 175 isn't an HO model Gar. This one spins a 1.86 gear set.

Not yet - not wanting to start buying props all over again unless I feel real good that this will fix the issue.

What is your top rpm with an average load with the 24" Raker?

When you say no acceleration, do you mean it will not go above 1200-2000 rpm no matter what, or that it just is very slow getting up to top speed?

    Re: E-Tec Accelaration problem (champion108)

Do you have a magnum(heavy duty) lower unit? I had a small block 200 etec that I had the same problem with. Finally found a dealer who pointed it out. It's fatter looking with a rounded nose. Know a guy with a 175 etec like yours on 18 foot Ranger and 23 pitch prop and he's been happy with it. I could easily see the difference in the l/u. I ended up putting an HO on my boat. The small block with the magnum l/u didn't like a 24 pitch on a 18' 6" Legend that is probably lighter than your boat.
