there are several places to stay very close to the two main ramps on amistad. anglers lodge is under new ownership and are great folks! the number is 830 775 1586. however, that is the single busiest time to be coming so i would call today! they(and most hotels/motels near the water) will be very busy even during the week in march... the two main ramps are diablo east and blackbrush. diablo east is a nice ramp, several spaces wide but will be very slick if you go when there are alot of boats loading/launching. blackbrush is my favorite (MUCH shorter walk to your truck) but only has a two wide ramp and is prone to waiting lines...the air force marina may be a good bet but i'm not sure its open to the public. tight lines and good fishing, bill p.s. for several up to date fishing reports go to http://www.texasfishingforum.com and look under bass fishing and fishing reports!

The E. Diablo ramp is bad when there are a lot of boats launching. I fished the TTT there last weekend. Some of the 2wd trucks were having a hard tme. If you have 4wd, you should be alright. I stayed at Laughlin AFB, so I don't know about the hotels.

After the Elite series there will be the State Top Six down there and then the next week after the Top Six, the Stren series will be there. So good luck on finding a room down there.

The main ramp and marina is East Diablo. There are several more ramps but none of them have much parking. the Air-force ramp is open to the public along with black-brush ramp box canyon, The high bridge, devils river and a couple more small ones that utilize old roads when the water permits. They have a web page that is listed under Amistad US Govt. Amistad is one of 2 federal lakes in Texas..I think there is a link to Del Rio Chamber of commerce And you can find many phone numbers for lodging and a map of them.

Depending on the weather between now and then you should hit right in the middle of the spawn... So there will be about any pattern you like to fish...Just fish to your strength and keep looking as there will be some place on that big lake they will be doing your thing. That is one of the few times I will fish any thing shallower than 12 feet. The past few years have been unreal for big fish and big baits......however it has been my finding that the big fish that are left are getting harder to catch and I have been doing better with smaller more subtle baits. I have had a hard time finding a pattern that will hold for long..

When you do go please do your part to help protect this great fishery.
It is unbelievable how many 5 pound and bigger fish have been lost from all the pressure. Both tournaments and cleaning !!
I was told by a Parks person this past weekend that they figured the FLW/TTT tournament had an 80% mortality rate this year.

I believe that by this time next year those 20-25 pound stringers will be the exception again instead of the norm. It is already showing in some of the T's..

Last year the Skeeter Basschamps T had 2 --5 fish stringers that were over 30 pounds- this year 1-----last year there were 30 bags that weighed over 20 pounds--this year 14---last year the 160th place team caught a 5 fish limit--this year about 50 less with 40 more teams entered..

It will take a few years for the pressure to ease up because of tougher fishing.. Then hopefully the lake will rebound again to what it was for the last 5 years--then it will start all over again I hope

    Good Luck

I always stay at Angler's Lodge, which is where most of the guys in my bass club stay. I echo the comments on the slick ramp at Diablo East, it gets very slick. Do a nice slow turnaround before you get your backing up point . Seen a few trucks/trailers jackknifed down by the water.

If you catch a hog, please get a fiberglass mount down. You can't tell the difference. Joy Roman Taxidermy in San Antonio has some excellent molds.
