Finally got a few hours on the water Sunday evening, the first cast hit the water and all the tension of the past few weeks and Hurricane Rita just went bye-bye.
Lake is very low, it's very hard to launch, we launched at the public boat ramp at Carrice Creek by Bryce's Landing Resturant on Highway 21. Liked to not gotten launched, water is so low in the lake, level is around 162.20 at present time. Water is so shallow at the ramp that there is a fish bowl formed from everyone power loading. It's very tough to get over the top rim and get turned around to get out of the cut to the main lake. Put a few gravel scratches in the prop going out and coming back in. Lots of new log jams all over the place.
Anyway back to the fishing, it was great, once we found them. Went to the main river channel and the pipeline just below the big main Hwy. 21 bridge and worked the edge that drops of into the river channel with crankbaits. Best fish was around 4 pounds with several in the 2-3 pound range. Used gold and chrome and blue and chrome Fat Free Shads and Fat Free Guppy that ran from 2-7 feet deep. Picked up over a dozen keepers the last few hours of daylight, most of the bass were chasing baitfish from the river channel up to the last ridge before it would shallow out to about 3 to 4 feet of depth. No topwater bite, most the action was well under the surface. Really nice trip for a Sunday evening, will definately have to find another ramp to launch at, maybe Mid Lake Village on FM3121 by the Paulo Goucho bridge has some water around it. Will let you know next trip out.
