Late night Friday night decision to go to Longmire with Kenny (franky6) at daybreak. We took my boat and equipment and we left out at 5 am.
Bite was on at the shoreline early until about 8'ish using a Gene Larew ring shad in watermelon, weightless. Had to be quick on the hookset, second bump was them spitting it out. After they moved off the shore, started working the treelines and hooked a monster that wrapped around a branch and broke off after about 15 seconds. Using a Sweet Beaver in Moss/Blood with a 1/8 tungsten weight. All I could do was watch in disgust as he flipped and swam off. Caught several sand bass and 2 crappie on Bandit 200 series in pearl.
Water level from what appears to be the norm is way down and the water temp was between 80 and 81 until we left at noon. Cloudy with about a 20 mph wind out of the south.
