Matt and I decided to try Lake Longmire which is about 24 west and south of Ada. It is about 1000 acres and was impounded by the City of Pauls Valley for water supply in the late 80's. There is a fee per boat and fee per man to fish the lake...cost us $7.00. The lake was stocked with Florida stain bass and I think I read that bass have to be 21" for you to keep them. The lake appeared to be about two feet low. Water temperature was 79.5 degrees. We had a very light south wind. We launched at the east ramp around 6:30 AM. The water was stained and there is still a lot of standing timber in the lake. We found the creek channel right past the "no wake" area and fished down into the body of the main lake. I threw a salt and pepper Bleeding Hart spinnerbait and a variety of soft plastics. Also tried a baby bass colored Torpedo early. Did not get a bite. Moved over to fish the heavily timbered edge of the flat and fished several of the main lake points using Wiggle Warts. Again no bites. Loaded out about 11:30 having gotten -0- bites.

I did talk to another fisherman who had arrived earlier than we did. He said he had caught several small fish and one nice fish over 6 lbs early in the heavy brush near shoreline. After that he had caught nothing.

The "thumbs down" is for the day, not the lake. It looks good and we are going to try and fish it more regularly and learn more about it.

Would appreciate any comments from other that have fished it, especially those who fish it regularly.
