I have a 1998 Ficht 150 model number J150ILECR. The tach started jumping around even when the RPM/throttle remains constant. I assumed it was a bad tach because I could tap on the tach and it seemed the problem would go away for a short time. The tach has been replaced, but the problem still exists. I have the service manual and it appears that the tach signal comes from the ECU on the Ficht engines. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I don't have a voltage guage mounted on the dash, but I did pull a reading from the battery with a hand-held meter. The battery voltage was about 12.9 volts, if I remember correctly. This was without the motor running.
I want to make sure I'm going down the right path. A lot of posts that I have read on here give procedures for checking the charging system to correct this problem (stator, regulator/rectifier). From what I can decipher from the service manual wiring diagrams, it appears that this motor provides a tach signal from the ECU. Wouldn't this rule out any of the charging circuit?
