Evinrude Ficht 1999 150 tach stops at 4800

I have an Evinrude 1999 Ficht 150. This last summer the tach would only go up to 4800 and that is it, I know the rpms are running higher. It is on a Stratos 283 f/s, so I have a prop I use to ski and tow a tube, it is an 4 blade 18 pitch, and a 3 blade 22 pitch I use for fishing and tournament. No matter what prop I have on the Tach will only go up to 4800 and stop there. Earlier in the summer it would go above 5800. I still seem to be getting the RPM because the MPH are still the same.

It is a faulty gauge or rectifier?

One of the Evinrude gurus will be along to answer your question. They normally want an engine model and serial number to best answer your question. I am not a mechanic but one thing I can tell you is go have a mechanic to pull a engine profile from the ECU on your motor. A 99 150 Ficht turning beyond 5800 is not a good thing. The internals will become externals. The computer in the motor will tell you exactly what the max rpm that motor has ever turned plus alot more information about your rpm profile. The early small block Fichts were a strong but sensitive beast that needs lots of TLC.

The engine computer generates the tachometer signal on a FICHT.

Most likely the gauge is bad. Plugging in a known good gauge is the quickest way to troubleshoot that.

Engine model is E150FPLEEA. The engine runs good, I do not have any issue there and It has not been over reved. It has a 20 pitch that is came with. When the Tach was working I had to trim it to reach 5800 RPMs. When I have the 18 pitch on, I never trim. It is hard to get the trim and everything right when you don't have an accurate RPM reading.

Is there a setting on the back of this Tach or is it probably just bad and needs to be replaced. Anyone know where the best place to get a new guage?

I love them FICHTs when I say this --- the good news is that the tach has stopped working and not the FICHT .... it's probably a small thing....... tight lines....
