The link below was just released by the Wisconsin DNR this past week. They are seeking to put heavy restrictions and regulations on all Wisconsin fishing tournaments. Some of what they are proposing:
1. NO tournies in July - August. Understand that our season is closed here from until early may and fishing is done end of October due to weather. DNR is worried about fish mortality during warmer months.
2. All tourney organizers would have to buy a permit, and EACH tournament participant would also have to buy a permit from the DNR to fund this.
3. Tourney organizers have to have a written plan in place to deal with aquatic invasive species (milfoil, etc), another plan to deal with dead fish, and another plan to deal with parking issues at the lake.
4. Each tourney boat would have to be clearly marked as a tourney boat or operator could be fined.
5. Imagine the economic impact to resorts, hotels, gas stations, etc.
There's more, lots more.
I'm asking your help to please send a short email to the dnr guy below who is taking public comments on this. Please be nice, we want to work with them, but we are clearly being singled out because we tourney fish, but please let him know what you think of this and the likelihood you, your family, or tournament group are to visit wisconsin and help our tourism here.
His email is:
