Richard is correct , don't go to Lake"O" unless you want to fish the rim canal. The water is extremely low. The SFWMD is lowering the water level to 10.5 ft in order to repair the dikes and to promote vegetation growth. I feel that the lake will remain low for a year or two, unless we get hit with another Hurricane this season.
Fish Toho, kissimmee, Harris Chains or even Walk on Water, but stay away from Lake"O". Good luck and tight lines.

    Re: Florida fishing (Roneichler)

    Hey Ron.

I'm from your neck o' the woods originally (Salem) and now live in south FL. Ironically, I go to NH once a year in summer to fish some of those pristine lakes up there.

First, I completely agree with the 2 previous replies. The Big O is in very rough shape with the levels dangerously low for everyone except the guys with VERY good navigational knowlegde of the lake. My local club fished our tourney there last month and quite a few of us got stuck at some point. If you must, then the Rim Canal is producing fish right now, and appears to be much safer just about everywhere you go.

Both Toho lakes and Kissimmee are much better options right now. You also have the Harris chain about 40 minutes north of Orlando. And if you're willing to drive an hour south to Highland County, Lakes Istakpoga and Placid are 2 of my favorites. For those 2 lakes I have detailed info on where I've had success, GPS coordinates, and even a highlighted map I can send you. Email me at matchframe@mindspring.com

    Bill

ps: You are coming at an outstanding time to possibly catch some trophy bass!
