    Guntersville in October

I am going to Talladega for the race in Oct. and spending the rest of the week at Goose Pond Colony on Guntersville. This will be my first time fishing Guntersville. What works best that time of the year and what are the best spots to hit?
    Thanks, Gary

Gary hit the mats going toward BB Comer Bridge, the main river mats.

Good advice from my man Eric B. Bout a mile before BB Comer bridge on right side and look for grass mixed with Lily pads and an old tree and brushpile sitting out of the water, stop, throw buzzbait on the edges and rats and flukes on the mats. Also, use a jerkbait, a big one in Bluegill colors, work that along the edges as the day wears on.
    Good Luck

Well with the Katrina gas price thing, I have canceled my plans for Alabama.Just talked to the people at Goose Pond and they said gas was $6.00/gal. and some stations there were out. Even if I could afford the fuel I don't want to get stuck there because I can't get gas. Was really looking forward to fishing Guntersville. Maybe make it next year.

We will have plenty of gas by then and the price should be back down. I would wait until closer to race time to make the decision to cancel

At the stations around Decatur it's 2.72, maybe 6 on the water. I think as soon as a couple more refinineries come on-line we should be better.

You really shouldn't miss Oct. fishing at G'ville. I go every weekend from Oct. 1st through Nov. Gas will be fine by then.

We usaully have our best five going 20-30 lbs. Top water is the best you will ever see it at this time.

I wish ChampioN boats would switch their dates to October for their T's that would be the time for G'ville.

    Re: Guntersville in October (gpugh)

Well it looks like I am back-on for our trip. Wife was freaking over gas but all seems well now. Bought a bunch of frogs and rats in black, white and pumpkin color. Thinking about getting some of those 8" Yamamota grubs to fish over vegetation as well. Is there a good crank bait bite in October?
Thanks for all the advise, I will be putting it to use.

    Re: Guntersville in October (gpugh)

I don't throw a crankbait much there in the fall. If they aren't hitting top-water, throw a 6" senko in watermelon/red and dead stick it. We catch all our fish on a rat, senko, or a spinnerbait in 3' and less.

The grass will be broken up in patches by then and will be hard to keep a crank clean.

    Re: Guntersville in October (damstriper)

Well I just got back from my first of many (I Hope) trips to G`ville and all I can say is Wow. G`ville is an awesome Beautiful lake. We caught some small ones early fishing the bridges in North Sauty. It was the most convenient since we had our wives with us. Later my brother-in-law and me ventured to the mats near Conners bridge where I had my first experience with Froggin. I lost the first two, one witch was huge, and landed the next two,a 2 and a 3 LLB. They got lock jaw after that and did not get another fish until yesterday morning while fishing the mats in Sauty across from where we were staying. I landed a 5:15 and lost two more. My brother-in-law lost 4. It is hard not to set the hook too quick. Froggin is addictive, I will be trying it in the mustard flowers on Barlkey this spring.
Thanks for all the good advice,
    Gary

All yea, I saw a great Nascar race to.

Good to here you had a good time. The frog thing the more you fish it the easier it gets. I always count to 2 before I set the hook.

Glad you had a fun trip. Dean Rojas is fishing hid frog now in open water. SAw him on match fishing. I dont know if they were on Barkeley or Kentucky or maybe the finals moved to a different lake. Anyways, the rat is a blast when the fish get on it. Come back down when the Bama BBC Club heads over there. I think we are having another Southern Rally this year. Winn would know more
