yeah, I have done a bunch for a friend. I end up sanding them to knock down the rough edges and putting on a coat of epoxy before repainting to seal and level the surface to a reasonable point. So if they have cracks and such you should probably reseal then paint. I use an automotive clear for the top coat, and usually add new 3D eyes for him.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
Probably be tough to get someone to do them for a couple of reasons, done properly you need to strip them to remove the old paint which means your gonna sand on cedar (cedar dust is toxic), there is just too much labor involved with too little profit.
I used to do them had a guy send me boxes of them he had tried to chest weight like Fritts did....he ruined them all, needless to say I had to rebuild them all, I won't do them anymoreI still have alot of vintage poes sitting back waiting to do something with.....

yep, as stated...you really need to remove the old paint on those. You can do so with burning it off with a torch but, you have to be careful not to melt the bill. Then they will need to be resealed
I've done a ton of these old Poe's. I usually remove the hardware, set them in a cup of acetone for an hour, and then remove the paint and bill (the bill in them is junk anyways I've broken a ton of them, I end up replacing it with a new one) I seal with a coat of D2T, put it on the drying wheel so the D2T sets even and smooth, then paint and seal again with D2T or Flexcoat heavy...
Hit the baits with a torch and remove the old finish and paint. Seal the wood, prime and paint. It's a lot of work and imho Poe's aren't worth the trouble. I've got about 40 baits in the shop that need a make over.
