    HELP cutting a rod

I have a rod that has been cutback and made shorter below the reel seat I want to cut what is left and put something over the ends left to extend the butt. What do i use to cut the bare blank between buttcap and reel seat?

hacksaw would work, but I am confused as to what you are trying to do.

trying to scab a piece of rod together at the butt section would be tricky at best... might work with a sleeve made by a larger diameter blank, but I would worry about the strength.

I use a dremel with a cut-off wheel. Or you can swing by an archery shop and let them slice it off with one of their saws for carbon arrows. Takes all of about .002 seconds.

Without seeing it, you are probably better off inserting a scrap blank inside the original and use that as an extension. Three inches inside should be plenty. I would just leave as much of the original blank as I could.

Re: HELP cutting a rod (PA Officer)

I had a feathercast casting rod 6'6" given to me . It originally had an exposed blank from the small cork handle back approx. 6" then a small cork buttcap. The guy did not like to long butt so he cut it off by about 5 1/2" so now the exposed blank is about 3". rod dia is .385 I am going to cut it at 1 1/2" then find a aluminum tube about 5 -6" long to slid over the 1 1/2" stubs epoxy the three pcs together. should not add too much weight and it is just to give me a little leverage don't care about the looks.

You can pick that up at Lowes. Here's one I did on a new rod a few years back for punching mats.

1st I recommend leaving as much as possible for strength and secondly, you have to polish the heck out of the tube for it to look good.
