    Rod building

    I'm going to start building my own rods.... need a little help on buying the right components... the butt .405 so what size reel seat and cork do I buy... Thanks

    Rock-that .405 converts to about 10.3 mm. If you get a 9.5 and a 10mm you will be good. Depending on how quickly the blank tapers and how far from the butt it will wind up-one of those might fit just right or the smaller may need a little reaming. Getting just one or the other almost always results in another component order sooner than you planned. You will use the other one at some point. Cork with a 1/4" ID can be reamed to fit anywhere you would need it.

    A Fuji ECSM seat will need a foam arbor on the threaded end to fit-the ACSM seat will not. A gel type adhesive (U-40 Quick Bond or Lamar's Ultimate are the best for your seat and preformed cork grips when installing on the blank. If you are going to make your grips from cork rings use Titebond III to glue them together before shaping and reaming. Ask all the questions you like. Dive in.
