I hadnt really said much, but I was given (for free!) a 1979 115 johnson a few weeks ago to try and fix. The driveshaft was stuck, and broke off. Got it out, and decided to see how well it'd run. Figured I wasnt out anything at all, since I still have a great running 1978 javelin 85 hp, thats my dads owned since new.
After rigging and installing the "new" motor, I had a few hours to head to the river and give it some gas. Had a friend come with me with an infrared temp gun since my alarm wouldnt turn off. After a few second burst at WOT, a few minutes of idling, it showed 135 and 141 on the cylinder heads. A 5 minute WOT run, and same temps. After a 15 minute run, same temps, so I figured it was just a shorted out alarm. I must say, after getting used to 38 mph with the 85, 47 and a little throttle left with the 115 was amazing. Cold, but amazing. Midrange, torque, and holeshot are awesome as well. Thanks a alot guys for all the help with these v4's over the past three years.![]()
