how difficult is it for an ametuer to make a fly rod??

I would love to get into custom fly rods...always fascinated me...anyone have any experience with these and where i could get the components and such to make one??? I would love to make my dad one for fathers day

CHECK http://WWW.MUDHOLE.COM they have all the components, plus part of thier catalog also gives you instructions. I f you need more info also check rodbuilding.org it is a forum that is very helpful in building your own rods.

Very rewarding hobby. I've been building fishing rods for a while and I think it's almost as fun as catching fish. Some guys can build a nice rod the first time, but I had to goof up a couple of rods first. Russ could probably set you up. By the way, if you're reading this Russ, that gearcase is still working great. Thanks.
