    Late Summer-Early Fall Fishing

What type of patterns should I try during the day for a trip in late August? I know the fish should be holding on steeper bluff type areas or deeper points/flats, but want to hear what other people may be trying. When should I start throwing the topwater??

Re: Late Summer-Early Fall Fishing (JimD)

you're going to get a lot of different answers becauseof different locations, different weather conditions, and different water temps. here in the west, this time of yr, i always start 20-30 ft deep on any kind of offshore structure. sunken islands seem to be the trick. shad are the main food source this time of the yr, and if you can find them, try to stay with them. as far as topwater, my rule is simple. always start with it early in the morning, throw it anywhere there is shade, and in the evening. ALWAYS keep a topwater plug tied on this time of yr. you never know when a shad boil is going to happen, and you want to be prepared!!! good luck
