    Smith Mtn lake?

    Hey gang,
Taking the family camping in late june on smith mtn. Ive never been there before and was needing some help. I plan on going up a few days early and bass fish before the kiddos and gf get there. We are camping at the state park. Thanks for any and all help!

First off, I am no expert on Smith Mountain. I go once a year. I was up there about a month ago. We did ok drop shoting secondary points. Did not seem to matter what color. Managed a few up river on wood as well trick worm/shakey head. We saw alot of cruisers but they were not interested in any offerings.

I agree, fish late afternoon, into the night, then hit an early morning topwater bite and go to sleep and let the crazxies have the lake during the day.

Agree also about the after-crazy time. During the mid day hours you will find that even the boat wakes make wakes, especially West of the State Park in the Roanoke arm, LOL.

Have not fished the night bite but a couple friends have and it is on they are burning up big largemouth and some stripers after midnight . I fish mostly days now because of my job and that bite has really fell of to what it was a couple weeks ago a 14 to 15 lb sack was just mediocre but now it is down around 12-13 as an average on daytime .We have been catching them on a ratl trap style bait and a finesse worm on a shakey head in the day but the big females seemed to have moved off shore recovering and eating up the shad spawn at night . spinnerbaits have worked some around fry when you find them and the fish are running about half way in the creek in cuts and secondary points . Just my 2 cents ,you know how fishing info is I can be burning them up on a ratltrap , tell somebody about it show them the fish and then they will try it and not catch a dang thing and they will think you lied to them . All tips are just that tips and fish are like some other creatures we love they can change at the drop of a hat .
