    Decarb question

I'm going to try and decarb my motor when I find sometime and money. My question what is better to use on these motors. I've got a 175 faststrike and was thinking either seafoam or ringfree, but want to find out whats the better product for my motor before I put the time and money into it. Anytips would be great to otherwise I'll just follow the instructions. Thanks

ooo another option. Thank you sir. Is that something I can pick up at wally world or something or do I order from the internet? Another question. Motor seems to be running weaker. Will decarb even help? I'm going to check the compresion when I get a tool, but just I thought a decarb and a plug change, might be good for it.

Hold the phone. I just read about the brp tuner and it says spray directly into the carb of 2 and 4 cyl engines.

"Spray through carburetor intake of 2- and 4- cycle engines for improved performance. Not to be mixed with fuel."
Sounds easier, but it doesn't say 6 cylinder and I've got an air cylinder that covers the carb intakes. Does this just pop off? I've never tried it.

On that motor you can use the Schroeder valve, so get the can with the Schroeder connection.

    Re: Decarb question (Iowa93champ)

I used Seafoam (DEEP CREEP $5.99/can) for the first time this past week and it worked great for me. I have a 2004 Johnson 2-cycle V4 (4 cylinder) 90 HP. On my carb air intake there are 2 straps on each side that hold it in place against the carb fronts. Also, there are two hoses that have to be disconnected (one on each side that disconnect easily by pulling them straight out). After disconnecting the straps at the engine, and the hoses at the intake, the air intake comes right out. After hooking up to the water supply, I started the engine and sprayed the DEEP CREEP directly into the carbs one at a time in a slow methodical way. After nearly emptying the can, I shut it off for about 15 minutes and restarted the engine. I noticed the smoke throughout the process. The smoking stopped after running the engine for several minutes as the directions on the can say to do.

One thing I would do different: my motor touches the ground when trimmed down (before it reaches level). I should have driven the trailer on some wood blocks to get it high enough to tilt the motor back slightly. Reason for this is that my motor was tilted slightly forward--resulting in some of the DEEP CREEP running out the front and not down the carb throat where it needed to be.

Results: better starting and smoother idle. Before the decarb, I was having a problem with my motor not wanting to start easily after sitting on the lake for a time (fishing of course). Sometimes it would even bog down and die after starting. Not sure if the improvements were a result of the decarb, or from the cleaning the carbs got from spraying in the DEEP CREEP. Last time out motor started on the first attempt EVERY time.

Your setup may be different than mine. I am not familiar with your engine. This being said, I hope this helps you in some small way.
